When we come back at 10:30am AEDST, it’ll be Shikhar Dhawan & Murali Vijay making their way to the centre, to face the fire and flare of Mitchell Johnson, Ryan Harris, Peter Siddle, and the spin on Nathan Lyon on this turning Adelaide deck. Stick with us!
10:30am | Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay are making their way to the middle. It’s a massive task ahead for India.
Do they go all guns blazing and play for a 1-0 lead? or, will there be a point where they’d be content with the draw?
All these questions are soon to be answered, as Mitchell Johnson gets ready to bowl with the new ball, and we go up to the Commentary Box, and say hi to Brett Lee, Ian Chappell and James Brayshaw!
10:50am | GOT HIM… THEY’VE GOT ONE, AND IT’S SHIKHAR DHAWAN!

India require 259 Runs from 64 Overs | Australia need 8 wickets
The Indian have survived through to Lunch, but it hasn’t been easy for them… runs are hard to come by, and so are wickets for the Australians… it’s 2/105 at lunch. We have 64 overs to play, so it’s going to be a very long afternoon here at the Adelaide Oval.
India can get away with a draw here (as long as they don’t lose wickets), as I think the target might just be a bit out of their reach.
More from here at 1:40pm AEDST.
1:40pm | Hello again from the Adelaide Oval, on the final day of the 1st test of the summer.
64 overs remain… the task is simple for India… Score 259 runs, or bat the day out without losing their remaining 8 wickets.
But, for Australia, those 8 wickets are all they need to take a 1-0 lead in the 4-match series.
Kohli and Vijay will resume. India are 2/105, and Nathan Lyon is the key man for Australia, as we go up to the Commentary Box, and say good afternoon to Shane Warne, Mark Nicholas and Mark Taylor!
2:40pm | DRINKS
India 2/159 (48) | Murali Vijay 66* (159) | Virat Kohli 60* (83)
India require 205 runs to win from 50 overs.
50 overs remain in this Test Match. It’s on a knife edge. Australia still need 8 wickets, and India only need to go at 4 an over from here on in… If they can get through to TEA without losing a wicket, we’ll be in for a cracking final session at the Adelaide Oval.
Brett Lee has moved into the Commentary Box, so to have Mark Taylor and Mark Nicholas!

What a contest we’ve got… India have really turned this match in their favour today, thanks to some brilliant batting from Virat Kohli and Murali Vijay.

6:20pm | NATHAN LYON IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH!
6:30pm | It was always going to be a special test match here in Adelaide, but I don’t think anyone would’ve anticipated what we’ve seen in the last five days!
Australia win in the final hour, after a thrilling and captivating day of Cricket.
Nathan Lyon takes career best figures, 12/276 (70.1).
Virat Kohli and David Warner score tons in both innings…
Steven Smith scores a total of 204 runs without being dismissed, and Michael Clarke played one of the more gutsy innings you’ll see, scoring a ton for his fallen mate, Phillip Hughes, and there’s no doubt, this win is for him.
On a sour note, Clarke injured his right hamstring today, and it’s likely he’ll play no further part in the series, but I think it’s fair to say that he was never going to miss THIS game.
India’s task was simple… score 364 to win the game. At 2/242, the match was theirs, but they capitulated, losing 8/73 to fall 49 short of the target, all out for 315 (coincidentally, that number, 315, is the highest total for a successful fourth innings chase at this ground!)
Virat Kohli and Murali Vijay played superbly… Kohli’s Innings was one of the best you’ll ever see on a fifth day wicket.
You could’ve awarded the Man of the Match to Warner or Kohli for their two centuries, but for that outstanding bowling performance, it goes to Nathan Lyon, who’s surely answered a few critics here.
So, that’s a wrap… late on the fifth day, one of the best Test Matches we’ve seen came to an incredible end, with Australia snatching victory from the jaws of defeat… they knew that if they got 6 wickets, the Indian tail wouldn’t offer much resistance, and it certainly didn’t!
We go to Brisbane on Wednesday for the 2nd Test of the series.
Play begins at 11am AEDST. We’ll have coverage from 10am AEDST.
For three weeks, this team and their captain have held the attention of the nation… It’s been tough, emotion-charged, tragic, devastating and heart-breaking, but the return to the field has been remarkable. A win driven by emotion, mateship and pride… A win dedicated to number 408.
From us in Adelaide, goodnight!
