It was a compelling day of Cricket yesterday at the MCG, and we’re set for another one today.
Hello everyone. Welcome to the Melbourne Cricket Ground for Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test.
Australia resume at 5/259, after a competitive day of play yesterday… it was an old fashioned style day… the run rate was slow, but Australia just have the upper hand at the moment.
It’s inevitable that India will bat today, as they only have to take one wicket, and they’ll be into the tail, but they can’t afford to let it wag as it’s done in the previous two tests.
Batsmen, fielders and umpires are all ready to go, and so to are Mark Taylor, Ian Healy and Bill Lawry!
11am | It’s been Australia’s morning so far at the MCG. 45 runs in 6 overs, and Haddin racing along, now past 50.
To tell you more about it, Shane Warne and Michael Clarke are with Michael Slater!

1:10pm | Hello again from the Melbourne Cricket Ground… Australia dominated the morning session, finishing at 7/389 at LUNCH… adding 130 to the overnight total, in just 25 overs.
Steven Smith has 128, Ryan Harris has 10, and they’ll now look to continue to build this very healthy first innings total beyond 400, and possibly 450 as well.
Waiting for us in the Commentary Box are James Brayshaw, Ian Chappell and Ian Healy!
3:20pm | Hello again from the Melbourne Cricket Ground. It’s TEA, and Australia have been bowled out for 530… they’ve added 141 since LUNCH, so the tail has wagged successfully once more, highlighted by another magnificent performance from Steven Smith, and a good knock from Ryan Harris, as both cemented their best score in Test Match Cricket.
Harris made a wonderful 74 from just 88 balls, before he was undone by Ashwin… he was caught in front of his stumps, and given out LBW.
Nathan Lyon followed, but only managed to contribute 11, before being clean bowled by Mohammed Shami.
Finally, Steven Smith tried to lay a T20 style shot off the bowling of Yadav, but he missed it, and was bowled for 192.
Harris | LBW, b Ashwin | 74 (88) | FOW 8/482 (135.4)
Lyon | b Shami | 11 (15) | FOW 9/530 (142)
Smith | b Yadav | 192 (305) | FOW 10/530 (142.3)
Australia all out for 530… they’ve managed to more than double their score from STUMPS on the first day… they’ve added 271 runs today, in just 52.3 overs, and increased their run-rate from 2.87 to 3.72… a great performance.
It leaves India with a long final session to fight back, because after that onslaught this morning, they’re now well on the back foot in this Test Match.
Indian batsmen are out their and ready to face Mitchell Johnson, and waiting for us in the Commentary Box are Mark Taylor, Shane Warne and Bill Lawry!

Australia 530 (142.3) | India 1/108 (37)
Murali Vijay 55* (102) | Cheteshwar Pujara 25* (69)
India trails by 422 runs
Australia’s day at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
They posted a total of 530, and grabbed a wicket that slowed the Indian scoring rate in the final session…
Shikhar Dhawan was the only Indian batsman to be dismissed this afternoon, and after that, another 53 runs were added in just under 23 overs, but they got to the end of the day relatively unscathed!
3 days to play. Wickets will be key for Australia tomorrow morning, and for India, they must go about erasing the deficit if they’re to be a chance of setting this game up in their favour.
Hope you enjoyed it today… It was Steve Smith who stole the show, and it’s Australia well ahead at the end of the second day.
From the MCG, goodnight!
