History awaits either New Zealand or South Africa… Neither side has made a World Cup Final before, but for one lucky team, that’ll rotten luck will change tonight at Eden Park in Auckland.
It’s New Zealand against South Africa in the 1st Semi-Final of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, LIVE from New Zealand.

Hello everyone… Zak Caban with you. Welcome to Eden Park, and welcome to our coverage of the 1st Semi-Final.

It’s fascinating, because for South Africa, this is their 2nd Semi-Final appearance… their last, that epic tie against Australia in 1999.
For New Zealand, they are the ultimate Cricket World Cup semi-final bridesmaid… this is World Cup semi-final appearance number 7… 6 semi-finals, and no final appearances to date…
On all six occasions, 1975, 1979, 1992, 1999, 2007 and 2011, they were the underdogs… but, today, they come here on the back of a convincing quarter-final win over the West Indies, and they’re in a contest that’s too close to call… this one could go either way… there’s no clear cut favourite or outsider, plus New Zealand have got the home ground advantage, and they’ll have the support of 60,000 Kiwis. This is their best chance of making a final, ever… Question is, who’ll handle the pressure the best?

Ian Smith, one of the commentators today, and a New Zealand great said, this is the biggest sporting event in New Zealand history, on par with, but not bigger than the 2011 Rugby World Cup Final.

It’s a beautiful day in Auckland… lovely bright sunshine and a clear blue sky… however, ground staff reported that there was an inch (roughly 30cm) of rain at 6am (NZ time) this morning… but, that has cleared… Play will commence on time, and we’re not expecting any rain for the rest of the day.

the Toss is coming up at 11:30am AEDST… and it’s an all important one too. See you in a minute!

11:31am | Hello again from Auckland, where we have BREAKING NEWS… South Africa have won the toss, and A.B de Villiers has decided that the Proteas will BAT first.

New Zealand have chased on 5 occasions in this world cup… comfortable wins against Afghanistan, Scotland and England, whilst they just got to the line against Australia and Bangladesh… in their other matches, against Sri Lanka and the West Indies, they batted first.

In the group stage, South Africa were defeated, by India and Pakistan, when chasing, which may’ve influenced the decision to bat first… when they have set the target, they’ve scored big wins against Zimbabwe, the West Indies, Ireland and the UAE… they’re only win when chasing in this tournament, came in the quarter-final against Sri Lanka last Wednesday, when they were only chasing 134 for victory.

Here’s a look at the two teams for you.
1st Semi-Final

One change for each team… for New Zealand, Henry is in for Milne, meanwhile Vernon Philander is in for Kyle Abbott.

So, New Zealand will be chasing… South Africa have won the toss… they’ll bat first, and we’ll have LIVE play for you in just a moment!

So, the stage is set… Hello again from Auckland, where the players and umpires have made their way out to the middle of Eden Park… a massive crowd in attendance here, ready for this all important semi-final.

It’s New Zealand against South Africa… South Africa won the toss, and they chose to bat first… Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock are the opening batsmen for the Proteas, and Tim Southee has the new ball in hand.

This is atmosphere quite like New Zealand has never seen before… 50,000 people packed into Eden Park, ready to be a part of History, as we go up to the Commentary Box, and say Good Afternoon to Shaun Pollock, Shane Warne and Ian Smith!

12:16pm | South Africa 1/21 (3.4) | Quinton de Kock 11* (8) | Francois du Plessis 0* (0)
‪#‎Cricket‬ | ‪#‎CWC15‬ | ‪#‎NZvSA‬ | ‪#‎ZakSportsAU‬

BOWLED HIM… AMLA’S CHOPPED IT ON… BOULT’S DONE THE DAMAGE!!!
BIG BREAKTHROUGH FOR NEW ZEALAND… THEY’VE HAD A FEW CHANCES ALREADY, BUT NOW THEY’VE GOT THEIR MAN… IT’S 1/21!

Amla | b Boult | 10 (14) | FOW 1/21 (3.4)

12:35pm | South Africa 2/31 (7.5) | Francois du Plessis 6* (16) | Rilee Rossouw 0* (0)
GONE… STRAIGHT DOWN HIS THROAT… A HIGH, LOFTED SHOT THAT WENT NOWHERE NEAR WHERE HE INTENDED FOR IT TO GO, AND SOUTHEE, DOWN AT THIRD MAN, DIDN’T HAVE TO MOVE, AND TAKES THE SIMPLEST OF CATCHES… IT’S 2/31… NEW ZEALAND ON TOP AT THE MOMENT!

de Kock | c Southee, b Boult | 14 (17) | FOW 2/31 (7.5)

So, Rossouw is out there, earlier than he would’ve liked… he teams up with du Plessis, and taking over commentary now, it’s good afternoon to South African great, Graeme Smith, along with Simon Doull and Alan Wilkins!

1:13pm | South Africa 2/61 (16) – DRINKS | Francois du Plessis 22* (46) | Rilee Rossouw 14* (19)

It’s DRINKS here at Eden Park, and it’s a gripping contest between bat and ball at the moment… New Zealand have picked up 2 key, cheap wickets, with Boult doing the damage… de Kock and Amla are back in the pavilion, and now du Plessis and Rossouw have gone about steadying the South African ship… and it’s been tough work… and slow scoring since these too teamed up… du Plessis finding it particularly difficult to get going… don’t expect scores higher than 320-330 from here… this isn’t a West Indies or Ireland outfit… this is the undefeated Black Caps, and they’ve got a spring in their step.

Let’s rejoin the action at Eden Park, and say hi to Sourav Ganguly and Michael Hussey for the first time today, as they join Ian Smith in the commentary box!

1:56pm | South Africa 3/114 (26.1) | Francois du Plessis 42* (73) | A.B De Villiers 0* (0)

GONE… BIG WICKET… JUST AS THESE TWO WERE STARTING TO LOOK SETTLED AND THREATENING… ROSSOUW HAS GOT HIMSELF OUT, AND IT WAS A CRACKER OF A CATCH FROM MARTIN GUPTILL AS WELL!

Rossouw | c Guptill, b Anderson | 39 (53) | FOW 3/114 (26.1)

So, now the danger man enters the arena for South Africa… he is the key wicket for the Black Caps to take, just like Brendon McCullum will be the vital wicket for South Africa this afternoon… the fireworks could well begin very shortly, as we go back to Eden Park, and join Michael Atherton, Rahul Dravid and Simon Doull in the Commentary Box!

2:42pm | South Africa 3/199 (36) | Francois du Plessis 73* (99) | A.B De Villiers 52* (33)

14 overs to go… AB looking dangerous… he’s raced to 50 in no time, and Rossouw has also passed the half-century mark… if they don’t get De Villiers out soon, I hate to think what might happen in the last ten overs… likely that NZ will be chasing 340-350 if they can’t put a stop to this onslaught soon.
It’s 3/199, as Michael Atherton, Graeme Smith and Shane Warne take over commentary!

2:52pm | RAIN HAS STOPPED PLAY
South Africa 3/216 (38) | du Plessis 82* (106) | A.B De Villiers 60* (38)

It’s raining in Auckland… the covers are coming on, and the players are going off.

South Africa are 3/216, starting to kick along nicely, and looking good for a total much higher than the 270 previously predicted by experts.

So, there’s not much else to tell you… the covers are on, it’s still raining out there, but hopefully we won’t lose too much time, and we’ll be back out there before we lose any overs… In the meantime, earlier this year, A.B De Villiers absolutely destroyed the West Indies in Johannesburg… scoring the fastest ever ODI Century… while we wait for play to resume, let’s relive that fine performance!

4:15pm | Still no news to report from Eden Park in Auckland… the outlook though, is positive… looking to the west, we can see sunshine… so, hopefully, play won’t be too far away… We’ll keep you posted… the news however, is that we’ve started to lose overs, which may end up depriving us of some A.B brilliance at the back end of the innings.

More from Auckland in a short while!

4:45pm | South Africa 3/216 (38/43) | Francois du Plessis 82* (106) | A.B De Villiers 60* (38)

Hello again from Eden Park… we’ve got good news… we’re just hearing now that play is set to resume at 4:45pm AEDST, but we’ve lost over… we’re down to a 43 over per-side game, which means that… South Africa only have 5 overs left… New Zealand will be chasing an adjusted total with thanks to Duckworth and Lewis, so get set for Fireworks… AB De Villiers and Faf du Plessis are about to be cut loose at Eden Park… you won’t want to miss this… let’s go back to Eden Park… your commentators are Shaun Pollock and Ian Smith!

4:48pm | South Africa 4/217 (38.2/43) | David Miller 0* (0) | A.B De Villiers 60* (38)

GONE… YES HE IS… IT WAS ORIGINALLY CALLED A WIDE, BUT NEW ZEALAND WERE CONFIDENT THEY HEARD A KNICK… THEY REVIEWED IT, THERE WAS A KNICK ACCORDING TO SNICKO, AND THEY’VE GOT FAF WITH THE SECOND BALL AFTER THE RESUMPTION.

IT’S 4/217!

du Plessis | c Ronchi, b Anderson | 82 (107) | FOW 4/217 (38.2)

5:15pm | South Africa | 5/281 (43/43) | Jean Paul Duminy 8* (4) | A.B De Villiers 65* (45)

So, the Innings has ended… 63 runs coming from the last five overs, and as we have already detailed, New Zealand will be chasing more than 282 for victory, due to the Duckworth-Lewis system coming into play.

Fabulous performance from the South Africans… to rally, and get to 281, given the rain delay putting a dint in their 50-over effort… they were headed for anywhere around 330-350 anyway, so it’s worked out about right for them in the end.

JUST GOT WORD THROUGH, that the TARGET for New Zealand will be 298… so, an extra 16 runs have been added on… remember, they only need a tie to progress to the final, as they finished higher in the group stage…

New Zealand | 0/0 (0/43)
Target: 298
Wickets in Hand: 10
Overs Remaining: 43
Required Run Rate: 6.93

We’ll be back with the run chase for you, in just a few moments!

Hello again from Eden Park, where we’re about to get this run chase underway… New Zealand are chasing 298 for victory, and a spot in their first world cup final… will it be seventh time lucky for the Black Caps, or will the Proteas get the last laugh?

5:48pm | New Zealand 0/63 (4.3)

SIX!!! ANOTHER ONE… WHAT AN INNINGS THIS HAS BEEN FROM BRENDON MCCULLUM… WHAT A START FROM NEW ZEALAND… FIFTY FOR THEIR CAPTAIN, IN ABSOLUTELY NO TIME AT ALL.
0/63 IN THE FIFTH OVER, AND MCCULLUM IS GIVING IT TO ONE OF THE BEST BOWLERS IN THE WORLD!

5:55pm | South Africa 5/281 (43/43) | New Zealand 1/71 (6.1/43) [TARGET: 298 (D/L)]
Kane Williamson 0* (0) | Martin Guptill 6* (11)
NZ require 227 runs to win | SA need 9 wickets.

GONE… BIG WICKET… MORKEL’S GOT HIS MAN!

MCCULLUM IS ON HIS WAY… AND THAT’S A BIG BLOW FOR NEW ZEALAND… BUT, FANTASTIC FOR THIS MATCH… IT’S 1/71… IT CAN STILL GO EITHER WAY!

McCullum | c Steyn, b Morkel | 59 (26) | FOW 1/71 (6.1/43)

6:07pm | South Africa 5/281 (43/43) | New Zealand 2/81 (8.5/43) [TARGET: 298 (D/L)]
Ross Taylor 0* (0) | Martin Guptill 10* (16)
NZ require 217 runs to win | SA need 8 wickets.

BOWLED HIM… FOR THE SECOND TIME TODAY, A BATSMAN HAS CHOPPED ON… ANOTHER WICKET FOR SOUTH AFRICA, AND NOW NEW ZEALAND ARE IN A BIT OF TROUBLE! 2/81!

Williamson | b Morkel | 6 (11) | FOW 2/81 (6.5)

6:50pm | South Africa 5/281 (43/43) | New Zealand 3/128 (17.1/43) [TARGET: 298 (D/L)]
Ross Taylor 23* (28) | Grant Elliott 0* (0)
NZ require 170 runs to win | SA need 7 wickets.

OH NO… MIX UP… AND A RUN OUT… A RUN OUT… THEIR RUNNING BETWEEN WICKETS WASN’T ALL THAT GOOD IN WELLINGTON, AND IT’S CARRIED OVER TO THE SEMI-FINAL… MARTIN GUPTILL IS GONE, AND SOUTH AFRICA TAKE THE ADVANTAGE IN THE 1ST SEMI-FINAL! 3/128!

Guptill | run out | 34 (38) | FOW 3/128 (17.1)

Still so much to play out in this match… far from over, given the depth of the New Zealand batting line-up… to continue in commentary, we say good evening to Graeme Smith, Michael Hussey and Michael Atherton!

7:05pm | South Africa 5/281 (43/43) | New Zealand 4/149 (21.4/43) [TARGET: 298 (D/L)]
Corey Anderson 0* (0) | Grant Elliott 14* (16)
NZ require 149 runs to win | SA need 6 wickets.

GOT HIM!!! HE’S GLOVED IT… TAYLOR MUST GO, AND SPIN IS DOING THE TRICK FOR SOUTH AFRICA, JUST AS IT DID LAST WEDNESDAY!

Taylor | c de Kock, b Duminy | 30 (39) | FOW 4/149 (21.4)

HUGE moment in this match. Corey Anderson comes to the middle… NZ are on-track, but they can’t afford to keep losing wickets… 149 down, 149 to get… 4/149, as we join Sourav Ganguly, Simon Doull and Brendon Julian!

8:15pm | South Africa 5/281 (43/43) | New Zealand 4/243 (36/43) [TARGET: 298 (D/L)]

A 96-run partnership from Anderson and Elliott has been a game-changer for the Black Caps… they’re 4/243, needing 55 off the last 7 overs, for a spot in the World Cup Final… they’ve never been in a better position… South Africa can see it slipping out of their reach, unless they get a wicket or two in the next two overs.

7 to go… to talk you through it, Michael Atherton, Graeme Smith and Ian Smith!

8:29pm | South Africa 5/281 (43/43) | New Zealand 5/252 (38/43) [TARGET: 298 (D/L)]

Hello again from Auckland, where we’ve just seen one of the best World Cup matches ever, between New Zealand and South Africa, and with just 1 ball to spare, it’s the Black Caps who have won the right to play in the final…

An extraordinary day here at Eden Park… a match that ebbed and flowed all day… there was never a clear cut favourite, even when De Villiers and McCullum were working their magic for their respective teams… yeah, sure… there were times when one team edged ahead of the other, and vice-versa, but we had no idea who was going to win that contest until Grant Elliott smacked it out of the park, sending those in Eden Park into a absolutely frenzy… they lifted the roof off this place, and it’s their team that are heading to the MCG on Sunday!

Post-match… there was so much emotion, and so much elation on that field… there were players crying… that’s how much this one meant to everyone, and sadly, there could only be one winner.

Despair for South Africa… they had their moments, and they had their chances… twice, a high-ball from Elliott went begging in the final few overs, and you feel that, if they’d held on to one of those chances, the game would’ve been theirs!

It’ll come as no surprise to anyone, to hear that Grant Elliott has been awarded the Man of the Match award tonight… a brilliant innings under pressure, to get his side home, and to finish the job with a six was just the icing on the cake.

We’ve witnessed one of the great moments in the history of New Zealand sport tonight. Cricket is all anyone’s talking about right now in this country, and rightly so… this New Zealand team is one of the best we’ve ever seen in Cricket… and they’ve gone through undefeated to reach their first final… living up to their dark-horse tag, but the big test is ahead on Sunday… they’ve not played a game outside of New Zealand in this tournament, so it’ll be interesting to see how they handle the MCG conditions on Sunday.

Duckworth-Lewis got it right tonight… they set New Zealand 298, and they only just got there, in one of the most compelling games of cricket we’ve ever seen… it held our attention from first until last, as most of the games have through this tournament… but, this one dragged out for over 9 hours… extraordinary stuff.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better… look what we have in store for you on Thursday:

2015 ICC Cricket World Cup | Match 48
2nd Semi-Final
Australia v India
LIVE from the Sydney Cricket Ground
1:30pm AEDST on NINE and FOX Sports 3

Looking forward to that immensely. Two of the form teams in this tournament, and archenemies as well… that is one you don’t want to miss!

A spot in the world cup is up for grabs… New Zealand are already there, who will join them? The four-time world champions, or the 1983 and defending champions???

We’ll soon find out.

But, in the meantime, it’s McCullum, Vettori, Southee, Boult, Elliott and co. who are heading to the MCG on Sunday for the nations first World Cup Final appearance… We look forward to your company on Thursday for the 2nd semi-final at the Sydney Cricket Ground… Australia against India, and we can hardly wait.

From us, for now, from Eden Park, it’s goodnight!
