FLASHBACK FRIDAY | ASHES SPECIAL | ASHES FEVER (2005)

We’re inside 2 weeks until the most famous battle between bat and ball commences once more.

Yep, it’s The Ashes, and this year, they’re being held on English soil, where Australia hasn’t tasted success since 2001.

Zak Sports will provide comprehensive coverage of the series, starting with the 1st Test, from Cardiff on July 8.

Before we get there, let’s have a look back at one of the more famous series in recent memory… The 2005 Ashes was labelled ‘The Greatest Ashes Series of All-Time’, after England so famously reclaimed the urn from Australia, for the first time since 1987.

They won the series 2-1, and captured the imagination of the cricketing world in doing so.

England has won every series on English soil since 2005, and will be looking to maintain that record this year.

It could be argued that, that series is responsible for the renewed interest that Test Match Cricket enjoyed immediately afterwards, and that Ashes Cricket still enjoys in 2015.

The hype and anticipation that comes with the build-up to an Ashes series has never been bigger, and we can’t wait to see what 2015 delivers. But, in the meantime, let’s go back to 2005… Ashes Fever – a documentary from Channel 4 in England (who incidentally lost the rights to International Cricket at the conclusion of this famous series), that details, reflects and tells the story, of how England broke a drought of over 18 years, and claimed Ashes supremacy.
