Game 1 was a run fest in Perth – 3 centurions, 619 runs, and 309 wasn’t enough for India.
Today, they get a chance to seek redemption!

Hello everyone. Welcome to the GABBA. Game 2 of the VB Series between Australia and India, and as they did in Perth, India have won the toss, and will bat first.

Three changes for Australia, with David Warner out of the side – he’s on paternity leave after the arrival of his second child yesterday. Congratulations to Candice and David on the safe arrival of their second daughter, Indi Rae. He’ll be replaced by Shaun Marsh despite Usman Khawaja being drafted into the squad.
Elsewhere, Josh Hazlewood is having a break, and will be replaced by Kane Richardson, while John Hastings is in for Mitchell Marsh.

India have made just one change, with Buvneshwar Kumar sidelined for Ishant Sharma!

2015-16 VB Series | Game 2
Australia India
Aaron Finch Rohit Sharma
Shaun Marsh Shikhar Dhawan
Steven Smith (c) Virat Kohli
George Bailey Ajinkya Rahane
Glenn Maxwell Manish Pandey
James Faulkner MS Dhoni (c) (wk)
Matthew Wade (wk) Ravichandran Ashwin
John Hastings Ravindra Jadeja
Kane Richardson Umesh Yadav
Scott Boland Barinder Sran
Joel Paris Ishant Sharma

2:18pm | Toss won by MS Dhoni for the second time in this series – India will bat first. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are the openers once more. Joel Paris will open up the bowling, and in the commentary box, it’s good afternoon to Brett Lee, Mark Taylor and James Brayshaw.

2:29pm | India 1/9 (2.2) | Rohit Sharma 3* (10) | Virat Kohli 0* (0)
GONE!!! THICK EDGE! SIMPLE CATCH FOR MATTHEW WADE, AND JOEL PARIS HAS HIS FIRST INTERNATIONAL WICKET!

Dhawan | c Wade, b Paris | 6 (4) | FOW 1/9 (2.2)

Now, this happened in Perth… Dhawan went cheaply (and in many respects, that was the worst thing that could’ve happened for them), and Virat Kohli made his way to the middle, and what followed was carnage, so the Aussies will be wary of that!

2:53pm | India 1/41 (8) | Kohli 11* (19) | Sharma 23* (25)
Once more, these two are looking dangerous… playing their shots when they’re there to be played… minimal risk cricket, and the run rate is above five an over.
Change in the commentary box, as Michael Slater, Mark Nicholas and Ian Healy take over!

3:20pm | India 1/72 (15) | Kohli 23* (35) | Sharma 41* (51)

4.8 the current run rate for India – they were 1/78 at this time on Tuesday, so they’re on track for a similar score if these two stay at the wicket, and whilst Australia are bowling well, very little has challenged the two batsmen thus far, as James Brayshaw, Brett Lee and Mark Taylor take up commentary!

3:35pm | India 1/97 (18.5) | Rohit Sharma 50* (61) | Virat Kohli 39* (48)
FIFTY for Rohit Sharma… this batting superstar continues his fantastic start to the VB Series… even though it was in a losing effort in Perth, that 171 was the stuff of legend! Already 220 runs in the series for him – let’s see if he can build on that, and go on with it here in Brisbane!

3:45pm | India 1/110 (21.4) | Rohit Sharma 52* (66) | Virat Kohli 50* (60)
THIS IS LOOKING OMINOUS NOW FOR AUSTRALIA – INDIA ARE ON TARGET FOR 300+ ONCE MORE… BEAUTIFUL SHOT FROM KOHLI… FOUR THROUGH THE COVERS TO BRING UP ANOTHER FIFTY – HIS SECOND OF THE SERIES, AND IT’S 1/110… ANOTHER 100-RUN PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THIS PAIR… THEY ARE THE BENCHMARK OF THE INDIAN BATTING LINE-UP!

3:55pm | India 2/134 (23.5) | Rohit Sharma 66* (72) | Ajinkya Rahane 0* (0)

GONE!!! LAPSE IN JUDGEMENT FROM VIRAT KOHLI – HE WENT FOR THE SECOND RUN – IT WASN’T THERE, AND HE’S BEEN RUN OUT AS A RESULT!!!
SHARMA DIDN’T WANT THE RUN, BUT HE WAS LEFT WITH NO CHOICE BUT TO GO AFTER KOHLI STARTED SPRINTING BACK FOR THE SECOND, AND AS FAST AS KOHLI IS, HE COULDN’T BEAT THE ARM OF KANE RICHARDSON!!! 2/134!

Kohli | run out | 59 (67) | FOW 2/134 (23.5)

4:40pm | DRINKS | India 2/194 (35) | Ajinkya Rahane 28* (32) | Rohit Sharma 98* (107)
Drinks being taken at the GABBA… Rohit Sharma still trying to reach 100, and Ajinkya Rahane has settled in nicely, and has moved along to 28… Sharma, lucky to be there after clearly edging one, but he wasn’t given, and there’s NO DRS in this series… a couple of howlers in this series so far, one in favour of each team, as Paris resumes, as to do Mark Taylor and Michael Slater!

4:49pm | India 2/202 (36.4) | Ajinkya Rahane 34* (37) | Rohit Sharma 100* (112)

GOT IT!!! SINGLE DOWN TO THIRD MAN, AND A SECOND CENTURY IN 3 DAYS FOR ROHIT SHARMA!

A MAGNIFICENT PERFORMANCE, BUT THERE’S MORE RUNS TO BE HAD IN THE REMAINING 13 OVERS. IT’S 3/202!

5:05pm | India 2/235 (40.2) | Ajinkya Rahane 51* (50) | Rohit Sharma 115* (121)

WELL PLAYED, AJINKYA RAHANE… FIFTY AT A RUN A BALL… A NICE WAY TO START HIS TIME WITH THE BAT IN THIS SERIES, AFTER NOT BATTING IN PERTH!

5:15pm | India 3/255 (42.2) | Ajinkya Rahane 61* (57) | MS Dhoni 0* (0)

GONE!!! ONE OF THE MOST BIZARRE DISMISSALS YOU’LL SEE IN THIS INTERNATIONAL SUMMER… RAHANE SMASHED IT BACKED AT FAULKNER, WHO MANAGED TO GET PART OF HIS HAND TO THE BALL, WHICH THEN WENT BACK ONTO THE STUMPS, RUNNING OUT ROHIT SHARMA, WHO IS LESS THAN IMPRESSED… A MAGNIFICENT INNINGS COMES TO AN END… 3/255!

Sharma | run out | 124 (127) | FOW 3/255 42.2)

5:33pm | India 4/276 (46) | Ajinkya Rahane 69* (68) | Manish Pandey 0* (0)

GONE!!! MS WAS TRYING TO HIT SCOTT BOLAND FOR SIX, BUT HE COULDN’T CLEAR GLENN MAXWELL, AND HE DOESN’T DROP THEM… IT’S 4/277!

MS Dhoni | c Maxwell, b Boland | 11 (10) | FOW 4/276 (46)

5:45pm | India 5/298 (48.3) | Ravindra Jadeja 0* (0) | Manish Pandey 2* (3)

GONE!!! GOOD CATCH FROM STEVEN SMITH!!! HE DOESN’T DROP THEM… RAHANE GOES WHILE PLAYING FOR A CENTURY, BUT DOING SO WHILE TRYING TO INCREASE THE SCORING RATE FOR HIS COUNTRY!

WELL MADE 89! IT’S 5/298!

Rahane | c Smith, b Faulkner | 89 (80) | FOW 5/298 (48.2)

5:48pm | India 6/302 (48.5) | Ravindra Jadeja 0* (0) | Ravichandran Ashwin 0* (0)

OUT!!! MIS-HIT FROM PANDEY… AND A GOOD CATCH IN THE DEEP FROM JOEL PARIS!
INDIA NOW LOSING WICKETS QUICKLY AT THE BACK END OF THE INNINGS! IT’S 6/302!

Pandey | c Paris, b Faulkner | 6 (5) | FOW 6/302 (48.5)

Two fresh batsmen at the crease now, so that’s a big bonus at this end of the innings for the Australians!

5:51pm | India 7/306 (49.3) | Ravindra Jadeja 3* (2) | Umesh Yadav 0* (0)

GONE!!! TOP EDGE, AND ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST… BOLAND TAKES THE CATCH, AND ASHWIN GOES!

Ashwin | c Boland, b Hastings | 1 (2) | FOW 7/306 (49.3)

5:53pm | India 8/308 (50) | Australia require 309 runs to win.
‪#‎Cricket‬ | ‪#‎AUSvIND‬ | ‪#‎ZakSportsAU‬

BRILLIANT FINAL OVER FROM JOHN HASTINGS… THE INDIANS COMMITED TO RUNNING BEFORE THAT FINAL BALL WAS EVEN HIT, AND SADLY, IT WENT STRAIGHT BACK INTO THE HANDS OF HASTINGS, WHO RUNS JADEJA OUT, AND INDIA FINISH WITH 8/308 – JUST ONE RUN LESS THAN THEY SCORED IN PERTH.

Jadeja | run out | 5 (5) | FOW 8/308 (50)
Umesh Yadav | not out | 0 (0)

Brilliant effort from Australia to reel the Indians in… at one point there, it looked like they’d be chasing 320 or more, and they’re only chasing 309… it’ll be a great run chase, and we look forward to bringing it to you in half an hour from now!

Hello again from the GABBA… it’s a cool evening, and there’s a bit of rain heading our way, but the good news is – it’s dry at the moment.

Earlier, India got themselves to 308, but it could’ve been more than that had it not been for a very good final 10 overs from the Australian bowlers. 3 run outs in that innings, just five wickets taken by bowlers.

Again, James Faulkner was the best in terms of wicket, picking up two, and Boland, Paris and Hastings all snagged one each!

Australia 0/0 (0)
Runs to Win: 309
Wickets in Hand: 10
Overs Remaining: 50
Required Run Rate: 6.18

Aaron FInch and Shaun Marsh have made their way to the centre. Barinder Sran has the new ball in hand, after his stunning debut on Tuesday, and waiting for us in the Commentary Box are James Brayshaw, Ian Healy and Mark Taylor!

7:07pm | Australia 0/32 (7) | Aaron Finch 17* (28) | Shaun Marsh 9* (14)
Australia require 277 runs to win.

Slow and steady start for Australia, but a sloppy one for the bowlers – already 5 wides bowled by the Indians in the first seven overs, as Brett Lee, Mark Nicholas and Michael Slater pick up commentary!

7:36pm | Australia 0/68 (16) | Aaron Finch 31* (53) | Shaun Marsh 31* (43)
Australia requires 241 runs to win.

Australia falling behind the required run-rate… only going at 4.25 at the moment, but they’ve got wickets in the shed… a very slow 68 for this opening wicket stand, as James Brayshaw, Mark Taylor and Ian Healy take over commentary!

7:55pm | Australia 0/109 (21) | Shaun Marsh 47* (56) | Aaron Finch 52* (70)
Australia need 200 runs to win.

SIX!!! BIG HIT!
After a slow start, Aaron Finch wins the race to fifty!!!
Brilliant stuff, and the openers are starting to find their feet. 0/109 after 21!

7:58pm | Australia 0/112 (21.2) | Shaun Marsh 50* (58) | Aaron Finch 52* (70)
Australia need 197 runs to win.

FIFTY to Shaun Marsh… in less spectacular fashion than Aaron Finch, but at a better strike rate… just 58 balls, and now these two are well and truly set for a big innings in this 2nd ODI, as they chase 309 for Victory.

8:15pm | Australia 1/145 (24.5) | Shaun Marsh 62* (68) | Steven Smith 0* (0)
Australia require 164 runs to win from 151 balls.

GOT IT!!! WHAT A CATCH… AJINKYA RAHANE… 89 WITH THE BAT, AND NOW AN ABSOLUTE SCREAMER OF A CATCH THAT GIVE INDIA THE WICKET THEY NEED, AND THE ONE THAT MAY JUST GET THEM BACK INTO THIS MATCH!

UNTIL THEN, THE GAME WAS STARTING TO GET AWAY FROM THEM… THE BATSMEN HAD TAKEN CONTROL, AND WERE STARTING TO LOOK UNBEATABLE… THAT SAID, DESPITE GETTING OUT, AARON FINCH HAS SET AUSTRALIA UP VERY NICELY, TO HAVE A REAL CHANCE OF WINNING TONIGHT. 1/145!

Finch | c Rahane, b Jadeja | 71 (81) | 1/145 (24.5)

Steven Smith joins Shaun Marsh, as Brett Lee, Michael Slater and Mark Nicholas take over commentary!

8:36pm | Australia 2/166 (29.5) | Steven Smith 11* (14) | George Bailey 0* (0)
Australia Require 143 Runs to Win from 121 Balls

GONE… POOR SHOT FROM SHAUN MARSH… LOOKING TO GUIDE IT INTO THE LEGSIDE, IT GOT AWAY FROM HIM – A THICK OUTSIDE EDGE, AND VIRAT KOHLI TAKES THE CATCH – ISHANT SHARMA GETS HIS FIRST WICKET… THIRD TIME UNLUCKY FOR THE WESTERN AUSTRALIAN… GOES FOR 71. IT’S 2/166.

Marsh | c Kohli, b Sharma | 71 (84) | FOW 2/166 (29.5)

George Bailey joins Steven Smith, as Mark Taylor, Ian Healy and James Brayshaw take up commentary!

9:22pm | Australia 3/244 (40.5) | George Bailey 41* (34) | Glenn Maxwell 0* (0)
Australia require 65 runs to win off 55 balls.

BOWLED HIM!!! CLEAN MISS FROM STEVEN SMITH, AND WHEN THEY’RE THAT STRAIGHT, THEY DON’T MISS THE STUMPS!
GOOD INNINGS, BUT AGAIN, HE FALLS SHORT OF A MILESTONE… 195 RUNS THIS WEEK, AND THAT’S A FINE START TO THE SERIES… 3/244!

Smith | b Yadav | 46 (47) | FOW 3/244 (40.5)

9:33pm | Australia 3/264 (43.1) | George Bailey 54* (41) | Glenn Maxwell 7* (7)
Australia requires 45 runs from 41 balls
SIX… AND FIFTY FOR GEORGE BAILEY… EVERY BATSMEN HAS MADE A START TONIGHT, AND AUSTRALIA ARE IN THE BOX SEAT NOW!

Man of the Match: Rohit Sharma
‪#‎Cricket‬ | ‪#‎AUSvIND‬ | ‪#‎ZakSportsAU‬

THERE IT IS!!! THE WINNING RUNS FOR AUSTRALIA!!!
GLENN MAXWELL FINISHES THE JOB, WITH A RATHER SMART 26 FROM 25 BALLS, AND A GREAT PERFORMANCE FROM GEORGE BAILEY TO GET 76 IN QUICK TIME!!!

Australia lead this series 2-0, with two record breaking performances… tonight sets the record for the biggest successful run chase at the GABBA, surpassing 301 from James Faulkner’s memorable match-winning performance two years ago.

It’s also the third highest on Australian Soil… and, for the second time in 3 days, over 600 runs in a game of Cricket, and again India are a few runs short of challenging the Australians.

Contributions all through the Australian batting card, with the standouts being Bailey, Finch and Marsh, but it’s the Indian superstar Rohit Sharma who gets the Man of the Match award this time around, after a superb knock of 124 earlier today.

India must win in Melbourne to keep the series alive… the pressure is on… their batsmen have been very good thus far, while the bowling has been a little bit sloppy, with too many extras creeping in, but Australia have just been that little bit better, but they’ll go to Melbourne expecting as tough a fight from India as they’ve had in the opening two matches.

You’ll see it LIVE on NINE from 1:30pm AEDST. No LIVE coverage of that match from me, as I’ll be commentating some Kart Racing in Newcastle that day, so I’ll be back with you for the 4th match from Canberra next Wednesday.

2015-16 VB Series – Game 3
Australia v India
LIVE from the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Sunday January 17 – 1:30pm AEDST on NINE.

Until then, from us, for now. It’s goodbye!
