Holihan Embraces Team Battle on Day 1 of the Season.

1916916_1715147905388139_8304726452141539857_nAfter months of planning, Daniel Holihan’s assault on the 2016 New South Wales Formula Ford Championship commenced in Goulburn today.

Holihan qualified in second position, and finished the opening 14-lap race where he started, after a race-long duel with team-mate Simon Hodges.

It was Hodges who claimed Pole Position in Qualifying. Holihan was fastest in the early stages, before Hodges managed a time marginally faster, and the gap between their fastest lap times didn’t exceed two-tenths of a second all day long.

Holihan had the lead for about 150m early in the race, but for the most part, he was on the tail of Hodges, waiting for his championship rival, and team-mate, to make a mistake.

Sadly for Holihan, Hodges enjoyed a smooth, mistake free race, and took the chequered flag for victory.

12509463_1097483383649803_7602514321644048537_nHolihan was upbeat about his second place results, looking at the bigger picture, which is an 18-race championship not won on the opening day.

Holihan’s approach for the season is to continue to accumulate consistent championship points in the hope that consistency will bring him the title at the end of the championship in August.

Race 2 will be contested over 12 Laps this morning, ahead of the trophy race over 16 laps this afternoon at the 2.2km Wakefield Park Raceway in Goulburn.
