Sydney Racer, Daniel Holihan, is embarking on his biggest racing season yet in 2016. The headline act for the youngster will be the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour at Mount Panorama at the end of March, when Production Racing returns to Mount Panorama.
Holihan will team up with fellow Formula Ford racers, Andrew Crawshaw and Simon Hodges for their tilt at Class E honours, driving a Suzuki Swift.
It’ll be a rare chance for Holihan to compete in tin top racing, and one that he’ll treasure, like most drivers do, when they get the chance to race on the best Motor Racing Real Estate in Australia.
Over 50 cars will line up for the big return for Production Cars at Mount Panorama, with the field to be let loose for six hours, at 12pm on March 27.
After Easter, Holihan’s focus will be on a long year full of Formula Ford racing up and down the east coast of Australia. Holihan is making appearances in the National series, as well as competing in the full compliment of events that make up both the New South Wales and Victorian CAMS State Championships, and if that isn’t enough, the season starts with some Historic Formula Ford racing, and Holihan will make a handful appearances in that car throughout season 2016, at both Wakefield Park and Sydney Motorsport Park.
The 1600 racer has secured a range of support from various companies in Reffind, LiveHire and McTavish for 2016, and will sport three different liveries across the six round season to advertise the three sponsors, who’ll enjoy two rounds each as the side panel sponsor of Holihan’s 1600 machine.
Holihan’s focus will be the New South Wales series, where after six rounds of racing, he secured a podium finish in the 1600 points race in 2015. He secured his first class win as well, and will be looking to continue that form in 2016.
It’s hoped that Holihan will be back behind the wheel of a Formula Vee in May, when that series heads to Wakefield Park for a club round as part of the AASA NSW Championships. Holihan last raced in the category at the 50th anniversary meeting last February.
The 2016 season promises to be the busiest yet for the Sydney sider, with plenty of time behind the wheel, and it starts this weekend in Goulburn, as he pilots the MOGsport 1985 Swift DB1 around the Wakefield Park circuit, in Historic Formula Ford at the 2.2km Goulburn venue, as part of the HSRCA Summer meeting – the first of five Historic events for Holihan in 2016.
