Edwards Enjoys Successful 6 Hour Shakedown at Muscle Car Masters

TLA Racing recruit claims Class C honours in Muscle Car Masters PTC outing at Sydney Motorsport Park.

TLA Racing’s preparations for April’s Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour have got off to a winning start, after Brent Edwards took the BMW 130i to Class C victory in the opening race of the non-championship Production Touring Car outing at Sydney Motorsport Park last weekend, where the category was supporting the Muscle Car Masters program.

Edwards would later complete the clean sweep, taking Class C honours in Races 2 and 3 as well.

Friday practice went according to plan for the Sydney squad, before Edwards secured second, in Class C, in the Qualifying session on Saturday morning, behind Raddatz.

Team manager, Trevor Mirabito noted that Edwards was unable to get a clean lap in during the session, due to the presence of faster cars around him.

In Race 1, Edwards started from 16th, and despite a slow start initially, he forcefully made his way through the field, to end up 16th after ten laps of racing.

Edwards enjoyed a great scrap with the Class D Honda Integra’s of David Baker and Matt Shylan in the closing stages, holding off Shylan, while Baker failed to finish.

Starting out of 16th in Race 2, Edwards again had good pace, but with less pace than he enjoyed in Race 1, he slipped down the field, to finish in 19th position, but as the only Class C honours, he only had to finish to secure them.

His fastest time in Race 1 was a 1:51.5262, compared to a 1:52.2496 in Race 2, but he wasn’t alone… much of the field lost pace, with track temperature cooler on Sunday morning than it was on Saturday afternoon.

Edwards completed the BMW 130i’s first shakedown for April’s Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour, with second in Class in Race 3, down in 18th position outright.

Overall, Mirabito was very happy with the performance of Edwards and the car across the course of the weekend, stating that the car ran perfectly, allowing the squad to gain some solid data, with thanks to their Whiteline Products upgrades, and the new lightweight battery that came to them courtesy of Battery World Penrith.

With Sydney Motorsport Park behind them, TLA Racing will spend the next month working closely with Adam Burgess (ADVAN Performance) and Scott from Western Clutch, to put some fresh running gear in the car, in readiness for their next outing, a test at the Production Touring Club day on December 10.
