With the Queensland Production Car Championship season of endurance upon them, the team at Andrew Wilton Racing have pulled out all stops, to secure the services of a talented youngest, for co-driver duties.
Next weekend’s opening round of the Massel Australia Endurance Cup, to be held at Queensland Raceway will feature not one, but two one-hour races, including the category’s second-ever night race, on the Saturday night.
Wilton, in the Class D Toyota 86, from The86Shop stable, will share driving duties with Victorian, Jaylyn Robotham.
The teenager is no stranger to racing a Toyota 86 – 2019 is the second year in which he’s competed in the Toyota 86 Racing Series. Last year, despite missing a round of the championship, he managed to finish fifth in the points standings.
Robotham returns to Queensland Raceway fresh off a trip to Thailand, where he’s currently competing in the TA2 Asia Series, and is looking forward to going racing in the Queensland Production Car Championship.
“I’m excited to join Andrew and the crew for the emduro weekend at Queensland Raceway. I’ve been to Queensland Raceway a couple of times, most recently for a test day in a Super2.”

Robotham will be on double-duty next weekend, as he’ll also be competing in the Hyundai Excel endurance race, alongside 4-time Excel Cup champion, Brett Parrish.
After 2 rounds of the 2019 MoComm Sprint Championship, Andrew Wilton finds himself in outright championship contention.
The 2018 Queensland Production Car Championship was won by a Toyota 86, and there’s no reason that can’t be the case again in 2019 – it’s a car that ran at the forefront of the NSW Championship for several seasons earlier in the decade.
Wilton currently sits second in the standings – both class and outright – just sixteen points shy of David Homer’s Ford Fiesta, and 32 points clear of the defending champion, Lea Medhurst – also in a Toyota 86.
Consistency is the key to winning a championship like this, where competitors only accumulate points based on where they finish in THEIR class, rather than an outright position, which is why the class cars, such as the Toyota 86 end up in outright contention at the end of the season.
This is the only championship round of 2019 that will be contested at the 3.12km Willowbank venue. The remaining two rounds of 2019 will take place at Warwick’s Morgan Park Raceway (September 27-29 & November 1-3).
The Queensland Production Car Championship hits the circuit on Friday afternoon, for two qualifying sessions – one to set the grid for Round 3 of the MoComm Sprint Championship, which will be contested on Saturday morning, and the other to set the grid for the opening round of the Massel Australia Endurance Cup, which will be contested across Saturday night, and Sunday, with this serving as the only double-enduro round of the season.
